Initial Qualification Information

Drivers who gained their vocational licence after 9th September 2008 for PCV licences or 9th September 2009 for LGV licences may have had to pass the Driver CPC Initial Qualification in order to obtain their Drivers Qualification Card (DQC)*. If you have not gained the Initial Qualification, where required and do not have a valid DQC you cannot have any Driver CPC training hours uploaded to the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) driver database as part of the 35 hours of periodic training.

*Please note: drivers who gained their car licence before 1st Jan 1997 typically will have acquired rights for C1 and D1 licences and therefore do not have to gain the Initial Qualification

ADR DRIVER TRAININGadr-training.jpgV2

ADR is the carriage of dangerous goods by road within Europe and anyone wanting to do so is required by law to obtain a Vocational Training Certificate administered by the Scottish Qualifications Authority. The qualification lasts for 5 years and must then be renewed by refresher training no later than 5 weeks before the expiry date.

THE ADR DRIVER COURSE IS BASED AROUND A SERIES OF MODULES:

Core – this gives a basic overview of dangerous goods – what they are, loading & unloading, security of loads, how they can react etc. Other topics covered include BASIC first aid, fire fighting and emergency procedures.

Tanks – covers the carriage of dangerous goods in road tanks and tank containers.

Packages – covers the carriage of dangerous goods in packages (apart from explosives or radioactives).

Classes – covering the seven main UN danger classes – Class 2 (Gases), Class 3 (Flammable liquids), Class 4 (Flammable solids), Class 5 (Oxidising), Class 6 (Toxics), Class 8 (Corrosives) & Class 9 (Miscellaneous)

Explosives (Class 1) and Hazardous Goods Awareness are 1 day courses and details are available on request.

MONTHLY COURSES:

Initial (Full) ADR qualification, 5 days covering :- Core-Tanks-Packages-Classes 2,3,4,5,6,8,9

Refresher qualification, 3 days covering :- Core-Tanks-Packages-Classes 2,3,4,5,6,8,9

We are always happy to accept candidates who only want to sit specific classes and will arrange a timetable to suit those requirements.

ADR AND DRIVER CPC: 21 hours towards your 35 hours of periodic training can be gained by sitting on an initial ADR course and 7 hours for a refresher course.

If you require any further information on the Driver CPC that is not contained in any of the above, or if you wish to clarify any implications this may have for you or your company, please contact the team on 01724 852626 or email admin@tacho-data.com
